Yeah, I hear you. They might have cut corners in production of some of those vehicles. If it was used car or out of warranty, I would not even worry about the noise. It is unnoticeable if music is on or window is open. I still have 20k miles before the standard warranty expires, and wanted to take care of any issue that can be fixed without paying.
Be-Bop, versus Rap, versus Hip-Hop, versus Classic Rock, versus Mozart.... Can't we all just get along?
One thing I would say however, is The Prius isn't a "typical" 29K vehicle. It is designed for efficiency and fuel economy. Which IMO means, it's designed to be as light as possible. With a HV battery and Hybrid Components, IMO Toyota looks to things like seats and interior as an area where weight reduction can be created. Maybe I'm just lucky that I'm getting old and my hearing is deteriorating? My Prius had a few squeaks and rattles. My Honda Fit has a rattle that is there every morning until the vehicle warms up. And it just fades into white noise to me.
OK, after 3.5 hours of waiting. It's all done. The service mgr said there was instrumental cluster module whose wire was touching plastic parts nearby. Nothing was loose, nothing broken, nothing needed to be replaced. All they did was put some foam in between. Drove home 40 miles, I did not hear any more rattle. So far so good. I also showed the Rust on rear hatch handle | PriusChat. They are ordering parts, but nothing was done about it for now.
Been Toyota owner 30 years here my rattle story 2017 prime base. Rattle spot is top center dash started around 5000 miles 15K on now .Drop off at local dealer had it 3.5 hrs service manger said tech can't duplicate noise .We go for a drive yup no noise The noise been there for 10k . I get home look at dash can see marks were remove it and fix it ?? .But why lie about. just glad rattle gone. thanks love the forum.
Udate on my 2017 prime rattle . Went back to the dealership few days later and they said found it.And it was a broken antenna order part installed week later so far no more rattle.
Do you have a specific part number that you can share from the invoice? Did they show you what the antenna looks like or where it is located? I am getting a rattle noise as well in some un-even roads but not able to duplicate all the time. The noise seems to be coming from the compartment (even taken out all the stuffs), noise still there.. radio off as well.
Is your rattle dead center, or on the passenger side of the dash? Mine rattles incessantly from the passenger side, even on smooth roads with only rough asphalt. I've found that even the slightest pressure on the top of the dash right at the passenger window will stop the rattle. The dash has a snap fastener right there and I suspect it is involved in the noise.
I had my rattling dash taken care of while under warranty. See my comment #24 above. There were no parts replaced or repaired. All they did was open the dash and reposition the cords and stuff some foam to prevent vibrating.
The noise got more consistent during this cold weather but have to be on rough roads. It seems I have nailed the sound coming from the centre front of the cup holder. Will raise this issue in my next service
