Funny post, but I'm not sure the humor was intentional. Instead of measuring the fuel used between fill-ups, or even reading the computer display, he chooses to make the conclusion anecdotally. Not much different from the way most debunkers go about things actually.

I have had my plugin for a year and a half and my wife's for about a year. I have fiddled with different routes, speeds, and driving techniques. I have consistently got 70+ mpg's when charging twice a day. My wife gets 60+ Mpg's charging once a day. In the beginning it was fun to see how many mpg's we could get. However when it consumes you I beleive the line has been crossed. I am to the point of drive it the way you want, get what you get. Enjoy the drive, how much is enough? I am happy with the results I am getting.

Probably increasing both in general. My wife drove her PIP for a couple weeks w/o plugging in and returned ~53mpg, which is pretty unheard of for her. She normally got ~43mpg in our gen ii and would probably get ~47mpg in a normal gen iii.

I can think of a few situations where we could get worse FE. We live up a hill, and if we can use EV for maybe 75% of our commute, but have to use gas for the last 25%, then our FE would probably be pretty bad since the car is going uphill and warming up the engine for those last few miles.

Having said that, in the aggregate our commutes/drives don't work out like that, and I'm fairly sure she gets better mpg than she would in a normal prius iii on top of ~8-12 miles of EV.
