A bench grinder works a goodly magic on duil stuff and ice skates. I prefer a sheet of 3000 wet /. dry on a pane of glass to a stone. Of course the slurry can make or brake (as in put the breaks on this thread - by bisc) a sharpening session according to the experts. Exactly which slurry per application is still up for debate, as usual.
