agreed, i thought o/p was trying to decide which one to purchase. liftback should be suiting him just fine for that kind of driving.

60 miles with one charge? Keep the regular Prius.

You'd end up paying $10000 or something plus your car to get one charge of EV per day. Someone can do the math but this doesn't sound worth it.

If the OP is missing out on significant HOV time savings, he may want to consider PiP now. Otherwise perhaps wait until next gen PiP comes out in 2015 and see what makes sense at that time.

Co-worker has a '013 PIP, each way commute 38-42 miles (76-84 miles). He can only charge at home and likes it when in EV mode, however that diminishes fast. He is O.K. with the PIP around town on weekends doing errands. The question was asked if he would buy anther PIP when the time came. He said unless the battery is increased in capacity, reductions in size, weight and costs - no.

He is looking at trading for a regular Prius, but needs to work the trade-in value vs. cost of a new Prius.

I can't think of any scenario where this would be a good idea.

Can you explain his rational why that would be smart? Just trying to have a discussion here.

The only thing I can think of is if the new 4G Prius offers something that he wants (e.g. 4WD-i) that isn't available in the PHV. By then, the PiP would be a few years old and still under the hybrid warranty.

Sounded to me like he was thinking more near term.

I think I'll wait till 2016 and decide then. That way, Toyota will have a year to work out the bugs in the new gen and my car will be 3 years old.
