Its_a_gas!...If I was unclear, sorry, I was talking about running cars on CNG, which is certainly practiced for many years. Yes the high pressure cylinders are a little like the Prius battery, as far as taking up space in the vehicle. As far as LNG, super-cold liquified nat gas, I do feel that it is important energy technology. But I would not consider that liquid energy.

Liquid energy I am defining as liquid at room temp, better known as oil or biodiesel, ethanol etc. as examples. I was suggesting, as much as I like NG, liquid energy is the most practical form to use in many applications, and I was suggesting that is why we may need to exploit the tar sands (and pretty much any liquid fuel stuck in the earths crust). However, my time frame is thousands? of years. So I can wait, if ICARUS feels we cannot cleanly remove the tar sands today, I will wait a few thousand years after ICARUS-IV. But I may trade-in to a plug-in Prius by then.

Yes, liquid fuels are excellent for transport, but putting still more excess fossil-derived CO2 into the air will make a hash of the world we know. Far better to manufacture artificial carbon-neutral liquid fuels using any non-fossil energy source and leave the tar sands where they are.
