Yes it will fit. But if you want larger and better go with the Mobil 1 oil filter size M1-209.

I won't say Frams are no good, but when I had a VW, there was a big sign at the VW dealer warning folks not to use Fram oil filters as they seemed to destroy VW engines of the day (1990 or so). I like to use Toyota filters while the car is under warranty, and probably switch to Purolator Pure One's or NAPA Gold's after that.

the filter for the camrys and the rav4s is a little bigger probably because of the larger engine size.

yes, it will fit on the prius, but the extra height might make it stick out too low on the car. the difference in oil capacity wouldn't be more than be a few mL- not really worth it.

Not like an inch or so would be dragging on the road. There is no issue using those oil filters on the Prius.

I'm probably going to switch to those next time. Extra oil capacity always seems like a good thing, but I'm used to driving a Volvo that had a 2.2 engine that held 6.5 quarts.

Extra oil capacity in an oil filter could also reduce oil pressure, which is not a good thing. Although I doubt a filter only an inch longer would make a difference.

I'm having trouble seeing the physics of that one, even if it were much much bigger than only an inch more in depth... Seems like oil pressue would be the same, assuming the oil level is full. After all, the inlet and outlet sizes are the same.

I guess you missed where I said "Although I doubt a filter only an inch longer would make a difference."

But in general more space to push oil through can lower oil pressure. That is pure physics.

Sorry I don't get it either.

Whether long or short the oil pump is pumping oil under pressure through the system. The oil filter, long or short, is always filled with oil by both it mounting position and the anti-drainback valve. Dirty oil pumped in will push out clean oil. The filter, long or short, will filter whatever is pushed through it. If the filter media is clogged, long or short, the bypass valve opens letting oil flow through.

The long filter, having a larger filter media surface area, will allow more oil to be filtered at any given moment in time vs. the shorter filter with a smaller filter media surface area. As the filter media becomes dirty, long or short, the oil flow through the filter media becomes less. Given the same amount of crud being filtered, the long filter with the greater filter media surface area will take longer to fill up and hence over the same given amount of time will see less resistance to oil flow than the short filter with the smaller filter media surface area. My understanding.
