Some people have speculated that the increased use of food/plant based "Ecological Plastic" under the hood (wire covers, hoses, etc.) and in the cabin is more attractive to rodents and leads to more wire-chewing and nesting by rodents.

Toyota engineers, PLEASE SCREEN OPENINGS VULNERABLE TO RODENT INTRUSION, ETC. AND USE RODENT RESISTANT COATINGS ON WIRING!!!!!!!!
THIS IS MAKING OUR LIVES MISERABLE AND IS TERRIBLY EXPENSIVE. SIMPLE FIX FOR AN OTHERWISE GREAT VEHICLE.
