Featured Toyota makes progress on all-solid-state batteries

Perhaps we are talking about the same thing more or less. There was confusion before I posted, maybe brought by @bwilson4web.

Solid-state batteries are lithium-ion batteries. Dendrites are only an issue with lithium-metal anodes, not solid-state batteries in general. Nevertheless, some companies have managed to make lithium-metal solid-state EV batteries as well. Dendrites cannot grow through ceramic solid-state electrolytes. How do you expect dendrites to grow though a ceramic tightly interfaced to the anode? There is no place for lithium metal to form in the ceramic.

Again, the working principle of solid-state batteries are the same as those with liquid electrolytes, except for the presence of a layer of a nonpprous solid-state electrolyte with high lithium-ion conductivity between the anode and the cathode, which unnecessitates the porous membrane for a liquid electrolyte.

 

I expect at least some Gen 6 Prius trims to have solid-state batteries.
