Trying to beat my previous MPG record

    And you missed my point. I am talking about round trips, returning to the same elevation. Do I need to pull out my picture of 72.1 mpg over 71.6 miles, round trip cold start garage-to-garage, with 2500 feet elevation change? And even that included a regen-filled HV battery and about 300 vertical feet of B-mode engine compression braking.

    While storing energy in the battery cannot be 100% efficient, storing it as gravitational potential energy can be, or at least so close that the general public will be incapable of distinguishing the difference.

    But you did answer my primary question, in that your hills are steep enough to require "B" mode descents. That is an energy loss mechanism in itself, forcing reduced MPG.

    LOL, I'm still burning it combined with a freshly added 1/2 tank to go with it when I filled up to end the test.

    Hey Mark, where did you get the wheel center caps when you took off the plastic wheel covers? I would like to get some myself.Thanks. Ted

    I ordered mine from Parts.com. For the 2010 with standard 15" wheels, I went with part number 4260352110 even though their description says "Type 1 2007 - 2009". $54.71 shipped.

    Note: there are two different kinds of caps. The one I have is embossed but flat across the face. The other one is also embossed but is domed.     PS, after this record attempt, my next two tanks (500+ miles) were 64.7 mpg and 66.0 mpg (actual). They both had several 70 mph trips in them with the A/C on. We've had some record rainfall combined with temps in the 90's and humidity >65% (read sweltering). I'm used to the heat but the humidity is a killer.

    When i can block out some time, I'm going to try this attempt again and push it out to a minimum 700+ mile run and I will not exceed 11.9 gallons.

    No, I saw no change either way. I does make keeping the wheels clean a lot easier.;)

    Update: Currently I'm at 702.6 miles with 1 pip left on the tank and HSi showing 79.3 mpg and is climbing very slowly. DTE is 31 miles.

    It's been really hot, in the high 90's with very high humidity. Early in this tank I had to drive about 60 miles with the A/C on so I seriously doubt this will break my previous mpg record.
