Harleys and other big bikes don't bother me much. The sound - while loud - is tolerable. What bothers me is mopeds - buzzing, irritating little mopeds. Especially running late night or early morning - often in packs. On the road they often tail gate as if their heads are impervious to impact. The Harley and big bike riders I know and have seen all seem to ride responsibly and carefully. This does not include the crotch rocket jockeys who wipe out regularly at 80 to 100+ mph - unfortunately the survival rate on these accidents is very low. Some of these guys ride at over 140+ mph.
This could be an older bike with a carburetor, and they are indeed trying to keep it from dying at a traffic light. Although, I don't see this occurring too often around here and haven't had this affliction myself...so its just a theory. Sorry OP, didn't mean to hijack your tread. I would think a group like Prius drivers would be sensitive to "vehicular stereotypes" more than others...and I had to step in and call out stereotyping of others. Its not cool.
