I'd appreciate some advice on what is causing the tuning on my radio to drift. The tuning on my radio drifts slightly causing the reception on the desired station to become static filled, then it drifts back and becomes clear. I can watch the display and see it changing from the desired 90.1 to 90.3 then to 88.9 and back to 90.1. I can jump to another preset then back to the desired station and it will have good reception for a few minutes, then start drifting again. It happens on FM and AM. Other relevant data: I went to the car wash 2 days ago, and remove and replace the antenna for the wash. I added a Grom-aux-toy audio adapter for my ipod a month ago. My car is a 2005 with the JBL audio and 6 disk changer.
A lot of people have had an issue with the volume knob. I'd imagine it's a similar issue with your tuning knob. Unfortunately, the only reliable fix is to replace the unit. Since you have added a piece of equipment, though, it may be worth removing it to see if the error still occurs. http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-ii-...8300-volume-gone-wild-then-stops-working.html
Any of you that need a "new" stereo unit can get a salvaged, tested one for about $80 from: Plug In Hybrid Electric Vehicle PHEV I did and it solved my "CD not recognized" problems. JeffD
Thanks for the link to the used radio supplier. I can afford 80$ for a replacement. I put the GROM aux adapter in to listen to the iphone. Now that I likely have to replace the entire radio I wonder if I should get a replacement one that has interfaces for USB and iphones? I saw a few threads on that earlier but wanted to take the simple appoach and just add the GROM and get get done quickly.
I figured it out. The GROM was causing the drifiting and I fixed it by jumping between Grom input modes (ipod, usb, stero). I wonder how often I will have to do this?
