I've searched and read numerous threads but couldn't find the answer. I am about o buy a 2005 Prius II with JBL system and would want to change the headunit to a Kenwood 2-DIN unit. Can I just replace the headunit and will it work with the JBL amplifier or do I need additional equipment? I am asking because I've read the JBL amp has a fixed level balanced input.
Having looked at the wiring diagram for a 3 Plug JBL amp, I would think the amp is driven by the headunit. The volume controls all run to the headunit and not the JBL Amp. Be aware there are 2 types of JBL Power Amps, a 2 plug unit, and a 3 plug unit. I have a 08, but I have heard from folk wanting info that their amp only has 2 connectors, whereas mine has 3. One note to consider, if you have the JBL pkg, if you remove the headunit you will lose the Nav guidance voice! There are a number of folk out here that have done marvelous things with Stereo installs. I am thinking they will pipe in at some point. .....F8L..... If you would like a copy of system wiring for the newer 3 plug amp system, PM me, I will email it to you! Good Luck, let us know what you end up with!
I am not planning to use the outdated stock navigation or bluetooth, that's the reason why I want to upgrade the headunit but I'd really not want to replace the JBL amp or speakers. BTW I am based in Europe and I've read somewhere that the EU JBL amps might differ from the US ones?
I want to change my HU on my 2005 with jbl, nav, and bluetooth also. Maybe there is a guide someone created for one with stock JBL amp out there? I want to know if I will lose bluetooth to my phone.
