Yeah, AM radio sucks, yada yada yada. I like to listen to the local sports talk radio. The local sports teams. They're AM only. Anyway, I tried unscrewing and putting back on the antenna at the top on our '05. Why does the AM have static to the point that it's unusable?
I have the same problem, at least in the city. I think it has something to do with interference, especially from metal structures because I also notice it when we go by construction/scaffolding, etc. On the other hand, was just driving in a friend's brand-new Prius and noticed that the quality of the AM was much better, and that we could pick up a signal from much farther away. (i.e. we could get 1010 WINS farther from its source than I know I can in my car.) Sorry I don't have a better answer. I may be about to get a new radio, depending on what I learn from here, and if I do and it changes things, I'll let you know.
