Hello so my 2007 prius, started doing something weird. My key fob works fine (ie the doors lock and unlock automatically) but when I get in the car and try to start it, that symbol appears and the car won't start unless the fob is in the slot. I changed the battery to a brand new battery and I still get that symbol when I try to turn the car on. It happened randomly one day and since then I cannot start the car without having the fob in the slot Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
It's not that, because the doors still unlock and lock using the key fob Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
jjmerp is referring to the SKS feature. If your car has SKS but you still need to push the lock/unlock buttons on the fob then the SKS is off and is also why you need to insert FOB to start.
So how do I fix it? Because that button that says key under the steering wheel is not off Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
P Press Key button twice, once to turn off, then to turn on. Dont put Fob in slot. Then try to start car.
I just went into my car (without doing what you suggested, and it randomly started working again. Strange. I'm wondering if the car is having trouble recognizing when the fob is in the car Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Well, now it is working . . . The car is not supposed to let you lock it with a key inside. When you think the car is not seeing the fob when it is inside, try hitting the lock button from within the car and see what happens.
