There's breaking news that there's a Chevron refinery fire in Richmond, CA right now. Supposedly, it's not under control. Fire Erupts at Richmond Refinery | NBC Bay Area
There may be a modest increase in price outside of CA, but it will take time to propagate and won't be as large as the increase in CA. At least I can say that I'm not sweating it with +/-50mpg in my Prius.
The local news last night and the story at Chevron refinery fire in Richmond may spur jump in gas prices - latimes.com mentioned "That refinery produces between 20% to 25% of the gasoline for Northern California..."
Gaso prices way up here already due to crude prices are up. No sure why the increase now, except we always knew the Iranian oil boycott was taking full effect here in July/Aug.
I filled up Monday night just before making my post above. By 2 pm yesterday, that particular station was up 10 cents. But gasbuddy is shows the area's average up only 3 cents today.
IIRC, I saw gas for >$4.40/gal down in the Monterey/Pebble Beach, CA area. Today, while at Pebble Beach, I saw a ripoff gas station charging $5.99/gal for regular and $6.249/gal for premium! That slacker station only is open until 5 pm. I saw that someone (for some reason) filled up 25.671 gallons for $154! I luckily didn't need gas. Geez, if I REALLY needed it, I'd have probably gotten a 1/4 or 1/2 gallon or something, enough to take me to somewhere w/more reasonable prices.
