We got dumped on again this morning. Everything is bright and white, except no sun. Merry Christmas everyone. Tom
cmon Q!! you know its only march. you just experienced "indian spring" yepper... just a fake out. winter will be there for at least another 6 weeks
If I'm in the country I know it is spring when I see the crocuses, but with the Prius a sign of spring is a 60 + MPG tank
Our fence is half-done, and I have a tray of primroses sitting out in the sun, anxious to be planted...
Now that the snow is melting, the shredded newspaper from the snowblower incident is beginning to emerge. It looks great on our front lawn. Tom
-There were 5 weddings on the beach Saturday and 6 on Sunday. -All our cars have tuned green from the pollen. -The roads are full of geriatrics on Harleys.
I'd leave it there, good mulch. You usually have to *pay* for mulch, who would have thunk it? Another option is to round up diapers from whatever babies are on your street, and run them through the blower in the middle of winter. I may try that myself, why the hell am I paying top dollar for Scott's fertilizer??
Yeah, but stuff doesn't decompose very well when it's frozen. Especially all those little plastic bits. And come Spring thaw, everything ends up as floaties. That's how you know it's Spring in Winnipeg. There's water in the basement.
Things get nasty quickly with rain on frozen ground, and all that snow melting at once. Do you keep a boat handy, just in case?
Not an issue where I live. Just 20km west of me, yes the boat and/or survival suit/pfd is a good idea
Our flood control system is lower ground. All of Chicago and most of Northern Indiana has to flood before we get wet. Tom
My First Day of Spring On the first day of Spring, it snowed very lightly in New York City in the morning. I went to the premier of HT Chen & Dancers' new piece at a Chinatown middle school: Lucy Liu introduced the new piece: And she stayed afterwards to speak with some of the kids: Then I splurged and spent $3.75 for lunch -- Beef with Bitter Melon in Black Bean Sauce over Rice, with bowl of soup & cup of tea -- delicious: On the way home, I passed a Salsa Red Prius by the Essex Street Market: And a statute of Lenin on the rooftop of an apartment building: When I got home, I tended to my Victory Garden -- red thyme, golden thyme, sage, rosemary:
Wow Boo!!...$3.75 for a great looking lunch. definitely dispells the "high cost of New York" impression!!
Boo, I wish I had been with you. It looks like a good time, and now that I know you in person, I know that I would have enjoyed the company. Tom
I know it's spring because the leaves on the deciduous trees are going brown, ... ... oh hang on, that means it's Autumn!
Pat, you aren't allowed on this thread. You have to wait until the "You know it's Autumn because..." thread. Wait a minute; by then it will be spring. I guess we simply have to ban you from participation in any seasonal thread. Tom
