However, when geared properly, linearity can be assumed over normal driving speeds (with no gear ratio changes!). Of course all the same frictions come into play and all that... but for a given speed, there are simply no tricks to employ for lowest energy consumption. No better load or rpm or torque or fuel mixture or timing or temperature. An electric motor really is a rare thing of beauty in that way.
