So can someone confirm whether the Prius can operated without any gas or not? <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Hytec\";p=\"79091)</div>
the first post is a first hand account from a Prius owner. the 2nd, an article written by someone who probably doesnt know a thing about the car. as the first one mentioned, the car will move on electric power only after the fuel tank runs out.
Appended below is the "official" statement posted on Toyota's Prius Web site. Hmmmm. QUESTION: Can Prius run on electricity when it runs out of gas? ANSWER: No. Though Prius can operate in electric-only mode when gasoline is in the tank, it is not designed to run without gasoline. Doing so could cause severe damage to the hybrid system, so drivers should be sure to keep gas in the tank at all times.
that is Toyota's way of saying that they STRONGLY advise against running out of gas and I have to agree with them. unfortunately, people if given an inch will take a mile.
